Look how small we were!
Henry has kindly brought in this class photo from when most of the class were in Reception! The class has grown quite a bit since then! Look how cute and small we were!
Outdoor Learning Day
We loved celebrating Outdoor Learning Day. We applied our English and maths skills to different problem in the school grounds. Ask us about what we did!
Our class book is Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. We are currently two thirds of the way through and we are desperate to know what will happen to the main character! We created some comprehension games to test our knowledge of the storyline and the language the author has used.
New Friends! 4 years – 94 years.
Reception children have visited their new friends today at Stocks Hall. The children have met elderly ladies and gentlemen and spent the morning completing lots of fun activities with them, their favourite being cake decorating.
Watching the children interact with their elderly friends and seeing the happiness on everyone’s faces was heart warming and made me feel incredibly lucky to teach such kind, caring and confident children.
The morning was a huge success and showed what a great community school we are, providing children with incredible experiences.
We are already excited for our next visit!
We’ve got the reading bug!
We have been loving learning all of our Phase 2 sounds in phonics. The children have been enjoying segmenting and blending and are able to read their books to their parents which is such an achievement.
We have loved having our own blending line in class. The children run to the board each day to see the different letter sounds and blend them together to make a word.
To see the love that Sycamore children have for books and for reading is wonderful and makes me very proud as their teacher.
Keep it up, Sycamore!
New Beginnings in Year 4!!!
Chestnut have had a fabulous start to the year! Mr Brindle and Mrs Ashcroft have been hugely impressed by the talent and hard work shown by everyone. We have been discovering how to add and subtract numbers using a formal method, writing information texts on exotic animals and investigating non renewable and renewable energy! We have also been busy developing the wild flower garden by planting bulbs, plants and shrubs! Within our Forest Schools learning, we have been exploring our natural surroundings, constructing shelters and building fires in a safe way! Hot stuff!!
Walk Like An Egyptian!
This term we are learning all about Ancient Egypt. We have made a great start by learning about The River Nile and its uses. Thank you to those children who have already brought lots of things in from home. It’s been fabulous to use these resources!
Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on how mummies were created, hieroglyphs, pharaohs especially Tutankhamun and farming.
