This half term, Chestnut class have been reading ‘The Butterfly Lion’ by Michael Morpurgo. The book is a fabulous story about a young boy who runs away from his boarding school. He meets an old woman, who tells him the story of Bertie, a young boy who lives on a compound in Africa. The story develops as we find out that Bertie rescues a white lion cub from a pack of vicious hyenas. However Bertie’s stubborn father sends the rare lion to the circus. Will Bertie and his new feline friend ever be reunited..? There’s only one way to find out!
Using the book as a stimulus, the children have been busy writing information texts based on the African Lion, examining why characters have acted in certain ways and composing setting descriptions based on the African Savannah. Call in to school to take a look at some of our fantastic work – we would be happy to show you!
